Is Sir Alex thinking of selling Wayne Rooney?

Manchester United FC transfer news has been the main stay of media avenues with speculations about Wayne Rooney’s exit from Old Trafford ruling the stories. Rumours about the transfer of the English star were instigated when Sir Alex benched the England forward against Real Madrid in a Champions League encounter, which the Red Devils later lost.

The Sun reports that Man U is ready to start negotiations for Wayne Rooney at an offer price of £25 million. Some reports suggest that Sir Alex might be concerned with the match fitness of the forward and his reducing agility. Rooney has two years left on his contract, which might be the reason for the Red Devils accepting a reduced fee, considering the striker is up for sale.

The arrival of Robin Van Persie and his phenomenal scoring rate might have also diminished the stature of Rooney in the current Old Trafford side. Considering the exploits of the pairing of Danny Welbeck and Persie from the last match, some would suggest that Rooney is heading for an exit from the club.

Commenting on the growing speculations of Rooney’s exit, former Man U striker, Michael Owen said, “Sometimes when you’re at the level he is at you don’t have many options. If you are a mediocre player you have 20 teams in England and aboard that you can move to. If Wayne Rooney moves, where does he go to? Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Chelsea and PSG, there’s only half a dozen teams.”

Cristiano Ronaldo has been amidst transfer speculations about a possible return to Old Trafford and if the reports are to be believed, then Rooney’s exit would pave the way for the return of prodigal son of Man U. Do you think Rooney’s time is up with Man U?
