Police have made a second arrest in the Jubilee Park rape case

The ghastly rape of a 11-year-old girl in Jubilee Park last Friday at 5 pm, which has incited fear in residents of Lower Edmonton, has seen a new development in the arrest of an 18-year-old in Edmonton who remains in custody at a northeast London police station.

The 26-year-old man who was arrested on Monday has been granted bail, owing to further pending inquiries which are to take place in December. The 11-year-old Jubilee Park rape victim is undergoing surgical treatment for the severe injuries sustained after she was brutally raped for two to three hours and then left to find her way back home.

The 11-year-old girl was walking along Galliards Road at around 4.15pm, while on her way back home from school on Friday afternoon, when she was grabbed by a man and dragged into Jubilee Park in Enfield, before being raped near a pitch and putt course. Prior to that, the girl had taken a bus from Enfield town to Bury Street. She returned home at 7.45pm after the brutal assault.

Detective Inspector Simon Ellershaw, who is leading the investigation, said, “At present an extensive search of the park is underway and local officers are conducting house-to-house enquiries, and we have already been receiving helpful information from members of the public.”

The police said that they are looking for witnesses who might have seen the victim in her state of ordeal or after that, given the unaccounted time period between the incident and the victim’s arrival home.

The police have appealed to witnesses or anyone with any information to help them nab the criminal by calling the incident room on 0208 345 4326 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
