Majestic...! Queen's Diamond Jubilee fete to feature Royal Diamond Collection

In a breathtaking show of elegance and power, more than 10,000 diamonds belonging to the Royal Family will be exhibited at Buckingham Palace on Saturday to mark the Queen’s 60th year on the throne.

The precious collection of jewels comprising earrings, crowns, rings, tiaras, snuff box and swords will delight visitors in two phases - first from June 30 to July 8 and then from July 31 to October 7 - to demonstrate how the British Monarchy have used diamonds over the centuries to flaunt wealth.

Billed as Diamonds: A Jubilee Celebration, the exhibition will include gems owned by the Queen herself and also items used by five previous monarchs. It is learned that some pieces will be on public display for the first time.

The coronation necklace worn by Queen Victoria, who was the only other monarch after Queen Elizabeth II to spend 60 years on the throne, will also be on display in the exhibition.

“We have tried to showcase some of the most important diamonds in royal possession”, curator Caroline de Guitaut said, revealing that the exhibition will be held in a darkened room in the Royal Palace, featuring some of the “priceless” gems and the Regalia.

Visitors will access the exhibition room through a regally decorated passageway lined with portraits of English Kings and Queens, Caroline de Guitaut informed. The collection will include items made from the famous Cullinan Diamond, which is considered the largest in the world, weighing 3,106 carats.

“Over the past three centuries monarchs have used diamonds to display magnificence, whether in personal adornment or as a statement of power. Each piece demonstrates breathtaking workmanship and extraordinary ingenuity in design”, the curator briefed.
