No prizes for guessing who’s king of the transfer rumours today

The big news of the day, and quite possibly the summer, is that of Robin Van Persie’s transfer from Arsenal to Manchester United, a deal that Wenger was said to have been forced to accept for practical reasons.

Arsenal fans may not be without reason to cheer for long, reports from the Daily Mirror calim Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez, 24, could move the other way after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

Real Madrid won’t stop pestering Luca Modric, who has already succumbed to promises of fame and fortune aboard but can’t convince Daniel Levy to let him move on; the Telegraph foresee a successful bid of £35m from the Spanish giants.

Metro focus on new hero Jermain Defoe this morning, making the 29-year-old Tottenham striker the centrepiece of a bidding war between QPR, Aston Villa and Sunderland.

While they are at it, Sunderland will also throw money in the direction of Wolves, offering a ridiculous £14m for Stephen Fletcher, but if plans A and B fail they will turn to forgotten man Louis Saha for a more reasonable fee, as told by the Daily Mail.

After recently receiving a handsome sum for the sale of youth star Jack Rodwell, Daily Mirror write that Everton will look no further than Anfeild and test Liverpool’s resolve for a £5m bid for Charlie Adam.

The Kop may be happy to offload Adam in order to bring in fresh blood, namely Nuri Sahin of Real Madrid fame, after Arsenal failed to secure the 23-year-old’s signature. More about that story in today’s Guardian.
