Eurotunnel and Eurostar are among the transportation entities badly affected by the UK snow

The Met Office weather forecast that anticipated intense snowfall throughout the week in several portions of the UK has certainly been realised in Kent. The weather in Kent has been woefully affected by the snowiness, which has led to a part of the M20 motorway in Kent being shut down. The paths to continental Europe are also being terribly impacted by the UK snowfall.

The UK snow has badly impacted transportation services, with the ferry services administered by DFDS being deferred by up to three hours. Operation Stack is in force now, which has resulted in lorries parking up on the motorway, while waiting to enter the Port of Dover. Operation Stack has shut down the M20 southbound between junction eight (Leeds Castle) and junction nine (Ashford north).

Non-commercial traffic is being rerouted to the A20 and lorries are being sent back to the motorway to be parked there. The A20 was also shut down momentarily in Dover on account of a crash consisting of four lorries. Meanwhile, the intense snowfall in Kent has also forced school closures. A number of schools in Shepway are still shut down.

Eurotunnel and Eurostar are among the transportation services disrupted by the snow in the UK. Eurotunnel is reporting postponements of nearly 30 minutes for freight services at Folkestone on account of the volume of traffic. Eurostar has announced that icy and snowy climatic conditions in Belgium and northern France were causing commotion on cross-channel high-speed lines. A modified schedule is likely now, with travel times being up to an hour longer than normal.

As per Southeastern railway, some train services may be postponed or annulled because of the snowy weather in the UK. Network Rail has reportedly been administering ice treatment trains across the rail network to make the network usable.

Under these conditions, it is advisable to travel only if it is highly essential…One does not want to experience the harrowing snowy traffic…
