A Littleport-based care home is asked by the Care Quality Commission to close its operations after the social care organisation found that the facility was not providing standard care to its inmates.

In January this year, Care Quality Commission officials made several surprise visits to Grange nursing and residential home in Littleport and inspected the quality of care being provided to the occupants.

Not happy with what they saw, the CQC issued a notice to operator Dove Care Homes demanding immediate action to improve the conditions at the home.

Now the county council, along with NHS Cambridgeshire and Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust, has intervened into the matter, making sure all 36 residents of the home find alternative accommodations.

“This decision has not been taken lightly and we recognise that relocation will be an unsettling experience for residents and their families. However, the welfare of residents within the home is of paramount importance to us”, noted a joint statement made by the authorities overseeing the relocation.

Quality of care at Grange nursing and residential home was found to be substandard as the residents were not given healthy diet and dressings were not done consistently, the statement highlighted, adding that care plans were also outdated and inadequate by modern healthcare standards.

“Following continued concerns regarding Littleport Grange, we are taking action to protect the interests of the people using the service, however the law does not allow us to go into further detail at this stage”, a CQC spokesperson said, reassuring that they will continue to monitor the quality of care provided at other homes.
