CPS has said Cyril Smith would have been charged and prosecuted today with the proof available

Late Cyril Smith, the ex-MP of Rochdale, did commit repeatedly sexual and physical abuse of children at a Rochdale care home, as per the Greater Manchester Police, who have stated that there was overwhelming evidence that the Late Cyril Smith assaulted boys, six at the Cambridge House children’s home in Rochdale, and two others.

The Greater Manchester Police has asserted that the ex-MP, who died in 2010, entered his grave without responding to the sexual abuse allegations against him. The prosecutors had rejected the idea of placing him on trial during his lifetime.

Cyril Smith was the Secretary of Rochdale Hostel for Boys’ Association, where he was accused of mistreating susceptible youngsters by whacking and groping them.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) has proclaimed that a 1970 decision by the then ‘public prosecutions’ director not to prosecute Cyril Smith wouldn’t have been made today as there have been alterations in law and societal attitudes since the 1970s.

Cyril Smith, the ex-Liberal Democrat MP for Rochdale, had been the centre of police investigations dating back to the 1960s. The first police inquest into Cyril Smith sex abuse claims involved eight youths, who alleged that Cyril Smith had attacked them when they were teenagers, between 1961 and 1966.

As per CPS, these attacks were supposedly organised on the pretexts of a medical examination or punishment for misdemeanor. The CPS has declared that the evaluation in 1970 by the then DPP permitted Cyril Smith to escape prosecution.

The DPP evaluation was that the personalities of some of these young men would be likely to make their evidence suspicious.

The police’s admission that Cyril Smith did abuse boys has given satisfaction to his victims. Barry Fitton has voiced to the media that he repeatedly told the police that he was abused by Smith. But Fitton was accused of being untruthful. The man has demanded an apology from people, who questioned his character, and that Cyril Smith should be stripped of his knighthood and MBE.

Simon Danczuk, the Rochdale MP, has remarked that he is happy that police files on Cyril Smith have been released.
