Online death hoax plagues Morgan Freeman

American-born actor Morgan Freeman, once again became a victim of online death hoax last week, as a page on Facebook declared the 75-year-old actor dead, and garnered more than 842,000 “likes.”

The webpage extract read, “At about 5 p.m. ET on Thursday, our beloved actor Morgan Freeman passed away due to a artery rupture. Morgan was born on June 1, 1937. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page.”

The actor’s spokesperson declared that The Shawshank Redemption actor was in fact alive and doing well, rubbishing rumours of his death to be somebody’s wild imagination.

This is the second time that the actor had to deal with a fake demise news of himself as similar rumours plagued him in late 2010, which claimed that the actor died at his home.

Morgan Freeman has been subjected to nastier gossip over the years. There were horrendous media reports about his alleged plan to marry his step-granddaughter E’Dena Hines, which were so widespread, that he was forced to issue a public statement to state the actual facts.

Freeman had stated with utter disgust, “The recent reports of any pending marriage or romantic relationship of me to anyone are defamatory fabrications from the tabloid media designed to sell papers. What is even more alarming is that these fabrications are now being picked up by the legitimate press as well.”
