Katy Perry bags Billboard’s Woman of the Year award with her hit single ‘Part of Me’

Pop diva Katy Perry has been awarded the ‘Woman of the Year’ title by Billboard, for her hugely successful hit single - ‘Part of Me’ and a 3D-film titled ‘Katy Perry: Part Of Me’, following a separation from her husband British comedian Russell Brand in late 2011.

The 27-year-old singer derived her inspiration for the single from her split with her husband Russell Brand. Katy Perry also disclosed her travails of personal and professional life in her 3D behind-the-scenes film - ’Katy Perry: Part Of Me’.

Billboard claims that Katy Perry has sold 48 million tracks in the US alone, including the hits ‘Firework’, ‘California Gurls’, ‘ET’ and ‘Hot N Cold’. Perry’s impressive records include nine No. 1s on the Pop Songs chart, a record seven on the Adult Pop Songs chart, 10 on Dance/Club Play Songs and an overall seven atop the Hot 100. According to data from SoundScan, tracks such as ‘Firework’ and ‘California Gurls’ figure among the top 30 downloads ever.

“Katy Perry broke into the industry not even five years ago, and has already accomplished more than most artists can hope for in an entire career”, Bill Werde, Billboard’s editorial director, said.

Fondly called ”katycats” by her fans on Twitter and Facebook, Katy Perry became synonymous with wacky, owing to her peculiar dressing style and captivating pop songs. The pop diva is also cashing in on her brand by launching her own range of perfume, nail polish and false eyelash lines.

Katy Perry will receive the award on November 30, 2023 at Billboard Music Event to be held in New York, bringing a fitting end to the pop icon’s chart busting year.
