Bradley Wiggins had won the 2012 Tour de France and a gold medal at the London Olympics

32-year-old Bradley Wiggins, the winner of the 2012 Tour de France, and his Australia-born coach, Shane Sutton, have been involved in separate accidents within the space of 15 hours in Lancashire and Manchester respectively. The two fell off their bikes during separate collisions, which has been dubbed a regrettable coincidence by Dave Brailsford, performance director of British Cycling.

The cycling accidents have unsettled the cycling community, with Dave Brailsford uttering that a more comprehensive awareness of cycle safety should be an inheritance of the London Olympics.

On Wednesday night, Bradley Wiggins experienced a bruised hand and injured ribs during his crash with a van near his residence in Lancashire. But Wiggins was permitted to go home on Thursday, where he is recuperating.

The 55-year-old Shane Sutton, the head coach of Great Britain Cycling Team, had endured small cerebral bleeding subsequent to his crash with a car in Manchester on Thursday. Sutton, who has functioned with the British cycling team since 2002, is now in hospital in a stable condition.

Sutton has been lauded for transforming the efficiency and increasing the successfulness of UK cycling. The head coach has been commended for Bradley Wiggins’ cycling successes, including his triumph at the Tour de France, considered the most grueling global cycling race.

Dave Brailsford has told the BBC that the drivers of cars must comprehend that the cyclists can be highly vulnerable on roads.

Bradley Wiggins was transported by ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital following his crash in Wrightington. Wiggins was riding his mountain bike when he collided with a Vauxhall Astra Envoy, which was coming out of a garage forecourt. The driver of the Vauxhall Astra Envoy was a woman, who was unwounded in the collision. The Lancashire police intends to converse with her as part of their inquest.

Bradley Wiggins acquired a gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, two gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, three medals at the 2004 Athens Olympics and a bronze medal at the 2000 Sydney Games. Bradley Wiggins initially specialised in the pursuit and madison events, after which he moved towards road racing.
